Blog Assignment 1

Hey everybody, my name is Joshua King.  I go by Josh.  My major is science education!  My interests and hobbies are what actually brought me to the University of South Alabama.  I love drums and marching band.  This will be my second year marching the snare drum with the Jaguar Marching Band.  Also, I'm deeply interested in chemistry, astronomy, and biology (probably in that order).  So, generally all those things brought me to South. 

I grew up in Andalusia, Alabama (for those of you who do not know, it is about a 2 hour drive north of Mobile).  Most of my raising was done by my momma and grandparents on the outskirts of a small town.  I have an older brother and a sister-in-law that are very close to me.  I attended a  fairly small school, which I graduated with 95 other students.  Other things I enjoy are music, sci-fi movies, cooking, and eating amazingly awesome food!

What lead me to want to be an educator?  After finishing high school, the band director asked me to instruct the drum-line, which I have been doing for three years now.  From that experience, I got a small taste of the joy and excitement of using my time and energy to help others succeed!  My other deciding factor came while I was sitting in a biology class at a community college.  Our teacher was terrible! He had no passion for the subject matter.  All he did was read lecture notes, and then we took tests. I'm not really sure why, but after that class I plunged head first to be a well rounded educator of science.
